Learn from a 100% Aboriginal owned, run, and staffed native plant nursery about Australian native bushfoods and help restore local endangered plant species.
The experience includes working alongside expert horticulturalists and young Indigenous apprentices in propagating and growing the critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS) and other native plants.
ESBS has Aboriginal cultural significance and is home to many animals. It used to be widespread over 5300 hectares in the lands of the Bidjigal and Dharawal peoples prior to European arrival but is now on the verge of extinction.
In this experience you will contribute to helping restore this vital ecosystem and learn about its importance to Sydney's coastline and biodiversity.
- The experience starts at 9:30am and ends at 3pm
- Volunteering activities are customised with the following options: Caring for Country cultural talk, propagating plants and seeds, weeding and mulching, maintenance of the bushfood farm, watering and fertilising plants, Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub education and restoration
- Option for catered morning tea and lunch or enjoy food breaks at nearby cafes
- The location is nearby beaches for beautiful scenic coastal walks
Prices start from $165 per person. The proceeds from this experience will go towards the nonprofit nursery and support the education and empowerment of Indigenous youth in caring for Country.
